Objective:
To introduce &/or make participants aware of the differences between local, state, and federal government structures; as well as compare the local structures of town, village, county, and city governments. We also hope that if a class member/leader would be interested in running for some form of public office, this class would provide avenues and resources for them to begin with.
Summary:
Government Day will provide an avenue for each class member to explore and understand through observation, participation, and interaction how government touches our life on a daily basis. Throughout the day we will provide a local leaders panel/presentation to interact with and learn from; go on a tour of some of the public works department facilities; and find out about voting, elections, and running for office. You will be asked to attend at least one local government meeting to observe and then share your experience with your class before this session takes place.
