Frisbee Golf Signage at Union Grove Elementary School
Worked with the UGES management and janitor staff on a plan to allow the placement of signs on the existing frisbee golf course showing distances to the hole, the par of the hole, and what hole a person is on. The funding came from the UGES, as a donation for the project. |

Food Bank updates and sign representing Union Grove
Fundraised and Updated the windows at the Union Grove Food Bank. They also worked with the UGHS art department to create a sign that represents Union Grove. Sign is hung on the south side of the Napa building. |
class of 2019Fundraised and built a concession stand at the Yorkville Elementary school. Great help and support by the Yorkville school board, many local organizations and community members.

Fundraised and built a pergola to display plans and help create awareness of the horticulture program at Shepherds College. |
class of 2017Beautification and Awareness of Cottage 16
Group raised awareness about Cottage 16, a homeless Vets shelter in Union Grove. They also fundraised and painted the facility. |

Established Union Grove Rails to Trails group to raise awareness and gain more support for turning the tracks in the UG area into a walking and biking path. |

CLass of 2012Introduction of Facebook to Businesses
Worked with area businesses, distributing educational information about the importance of having a facebook page and how to start one. Project included a training day. |

Plantings around the Welcome to Union Grove signs. In the future, they will be maintained by Shepherds Greenhouse students. |
class of 2009Two Group Projects
One group had a food drive which was partnered by Union Grove Elementary School. All food and monetary donations were delivered to the Union Grove Area Food Bank. The second group designed a website for the Union Grove Area Food Bank. |
class of 2008Two Group Projects
One group completed a cleanup of four municipal parking lots off of Main Street in cooperation with the Village of Union Grove and with help from members of the Earned Release Program at Robert E. Ellsworth Correctional Center. It also established a line of communication between the Village Administrator and the Superintendent of Ellsworth. The other group did a Walking School Bus to identify “Safe Route to School” and organized adult volunteers to accompany children who walked or biked to school during Walk/Bike to School Week. |
class of 2007Two Group Projects
One group sponsored a bowling fundraiser to benefit the Union Grove Sports Complex. The group exceeded its goals of raising $1,500 and spreading awareness of the complex. The other group established a Block Parenting program in the neighborhood surrounding Union Grove Elementary School with a “helping hand” in the window of a home where students could seek assistance |
Class of 2006Two Group Projects
One group taught a mini leadership seminar to two classes at Union High School, including team building activities and a mock job interview. The other group organized community groups to help with a Spring Clean Up Day in the Village of Union Grove parks and roadsides. |
Class of 2005Two Projects Completed
Helped the Union Grove Area Food Bank move from St. Robert's to the former Union Grove Municipal Building. One workday was to purchase, deliver and set up 10 commercial shelving units, 6 tables, 8 chairs and a multi-purpose cart, all made possible by a generous donation from the Kiwanis Club. A second day was helping box the food, carry boxes upstairs into vehicles, unload boxes and help stock shelves. SERVE Enterprises loaned a truck on both days. Recondition the picnic tables in Leider Park. Donations were received from Stericycle, Inc., Howard's Custom Box Calls, Kiwanis Club and Lions Club. The sanding and painting of 10 tables was done outside the Municipal Garage at 1015 State Street. |
class of 2004Two Projects Completed
Spruce up the four "Welcome To Union Grove" signs, which was expanded to include approximately ten other park signs. The team met Tuesday nights from 6-8 p.m. in the Village's Municipal Garage. The letters were repainted a light color and then each sign received three coats of burgundy paint. The paint was donated by Union Grove Lumber. Compile and print a booklet of "Village of Union Grove Frequently Used Ordinances". It covers such topics as Dogs & Cats and other animals; Building Permits; Garbage & Rubbish collection; Odd & Even Parking; Abandoned Vehicles; Bicycles; Snowmobiles; Zoning Districts; Traffic & Parking; Signs, etc. It is in no way representative of all Village ordinances. Printed copies and CD versions are available. The printing costs were paid by Union Grove Lions Club. |
class of 2003Original Leadership Union Grove Website
The group decided to enable other people to know more about Leadership Union Grove by developing a LUG website with curriculum, class schedule, contact names, and fun photos. Our own personal testimonials on the page let others know how much the class has influence us. |
Class of 2002Safety and Emergency Action Manual
The group researched and produced a manual which was delivered to every household in Union Grove and distributed through the Chamber of Commerce. The manual was divided into three sections: Natural Emergencies, Accidental Emergencies, and Technological Emergencies. Class members raised funds from their sponsors and received two grants to pay the printing costs. LUG is very proud that the manual received Second Place in the 2002 Media Awards Contest sponsored by the International Association of Emergency Managers. |
Class of 2001Parks and Recreation Assessment
An inventory of current facilities in the Village of Union Grove and adjacent townships was completed. A survey showed that the most needed recreation activity is Walking Trails, followed by Skateboard Park, Basketball Courts, Snowmobile Paths, and Soccer Fields. |
Class of 2000Future Needs Survey
Responses were organized by age categories and results made available to the Union Grove Village Board of Trustees. |
